Congrats on 4 days of being smoke free!
 
It sounds like you have some good strategies in place to help with the cravings. As you can see, weight gain can be a concern for many people who are quitting but you will always have support here. I know you mentioned that you are at a healthy weight now so it sounds like you have knowledge and skills that can help you maintain where you are.

Thank you for the support!!! I am on day 4 I am distracting myself during cravings, and trying to avoid the "smokers" I hang around with, that is the difficult part. Also when I eat I ask myself if it because I am hungry or if I am replacing the food for the smoke.

I also was quite concerned about weight gain...I had visions of gaining 25 lbs. I haven't  really changed my eating habits, i had lost 20 lbs and kept it off for 3 years.
So far i have gained about 7 lbs  ut the reding I have done says that your metabolism slows down when you quit smoking and most weight gain is between 5 - 10 lbs.
My oldest sister says " stop smoking first, then think about regaining your ideal weight. " 
I think she's  right....one thing at a time.

I have always had a healthy appetite.  I love to eat.  So I have not gained any weight since quitting.  My eating habits have remained the same.  And in fact, I expect I will start losing some weight as the weather gets better, because I do find I have more energy.  Due to my own personal physical situation, I will never do any really strenuous physical activity.  However, walking can do wonders and I plan to do more of it.

As Jeyan shared, to worry to much about weight gain can be a barrier to take steps to quit.  Not everyone gains weight yet when food tastes and smells better, naturally want to eat more.  So getting support for healthy eating and portion control will certainly help.  Getting active regularly, coming on better weather is always good.  Eating to replace smoking when dealing with stress involves skills which we can certainly support you with. 
 
Any plans you have in place?  We can help you build them up so your confidence increases.

Most of us experience weight gain during the quitting process as tend to eat junk food or over eat to distract our cravings. I would not worry too much about weight gain as it's very easy to shed weight after wards if you watch what you eat, drink, and some exercise.

I am new to this group, and my quit date is April 14, gaining weight is one of the reasons I am nervous about quitting, I am at a healthy weight now but it took me a long time to get here, I will need the support of this group to help me on my journey!

You can do it Doyle ... exercise is awesome .. you don't have to go all gung ho at the start, just get out there and maybe do some walking .. I walk everyday and I feel good about it because I poisoned my body for so long and now I am gifting it everyday with exercise that strengthens my heart and lungs and I feel really good afterwards.. check your in boxMother

I realize cigarettes increase my heart rate and is a stimulant, but I can't use these facts as a justification for smoking.  I have gained weight since my quit and am a bit discouraged.  I hope to use this weekend to set up an exercise program and healthy eating to compensate for the extra pounds.  I feel too good to smoke.  I have a lot of energy, so I really hope I can turn this weight gain around.
