To respond to Tough Cookie,
After reading your post because I also enjoy a green substitute regularly. Everyone smokes and everyone relapses for a reason. Being 71 days into my quit I find my ``substitute`` hurts my lungs which I didn't notice as much when I was smoking. When I have relapsed in the past it was because of stress and not green. Like I said though everyone has their own reasons to relapse. Since quitting my consumption has gone waaayyyy down ( although it is still extremely regular) I also crave the after smoke but a lot less now, I think now for me its just an old habit rearing its ugly head. To my knowledge not many people start smoking both at the same time, so if you are able to quit one then you can quit the other(if you want to). Being a smoker for 20 years and being in my longest quit ever, I say definately do what feels right. Maybe having a ``substitute`` can aid in your quit of cigs. They do sell inhalers to break the fingers to mouth habit don't they? Maybe if it is right for you then thats what you do. To each his own but no doctor will not tell you that it is not bad for your lungs. My best advice is N.O.P.E Stay strong!

I agree with M1FL, smoking anything has got to be bad for your lungs. Smoking anything is also really horribly bad for your teeth (and your breath/body odor). MJ probally does contribute to health problems, and more and more studies are linking it to mental health issues. I smoked MJ for many years and used to think that was all anti-smoking BS...until I quit and felt....BETTER THAN EVER! Try life straight and sober...it's not that bad!!

My Quit Date: 11/21/2009 Smoke-Free Days: 108 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,296 Amount Saved: $466.56 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 7 Mins: 10 Seconds: 19

Hi Everyone,
Oftentimes people who smoke whatever substance will find that it triggers the cravings to smoke. It also increases the likelihood of giving yourself the permission to smoke and weakening your commitment. Those are two things to consider in your drive to quit smoking.
As for questions about what it does to your lungs, the best person to ask is a doctor.
Arm yourself with the most accurate information and consider all of your habits seriously. This will help you achieve your goals.

Well, you see, I would smoke it pretty much every day. Not a lot mind you. Probably would go though 1 oz every 9 months. There is a lot more tar in MJ than tobacco, and I've come to the conclusion that smoking anything has got to be bad for your lungs...
I mostly quit it because its the only thing I didn't quit in the past and am pretty sure having that as a crutch was not a good thing and caused me to relapse when I couldn't have it. The question you have to ask yourself is that if you didn't have your MJ, would you still be able to be off the smokes for as long as you have? If you were smoking both and are now just smoking MJ, then at least you are not, as you say, smoking 4000 chemicals the Tobacco companies are brewing in the backy, but are still smoking.
I am exercising a lot now and getting my "high" from exercise. If I was still smoking, I priobably would not be exercising...

Hi March1forlife
Wow to go almost 2 years the most I ever went was a couple of days. Good for you for not giving up the quit. I figure the other numerous times I had tried perhaps I wasn't ready. Perhaps you weren't either. It is really hard and scary to think we always have to be on guard for cravings even years after, though I sure hope they will be easier to avoid by that time LOL. It hear you on not subsituting one habit for another it makes sense. Right now I have to stop cramming food into my mouth before I am in a support group for weight loss. LOL Keep up the good work!! I am routing for you.

I am sooo relieved to see to read your thread!
I myself have been a fan of MJ for..hmm lets see....8 years or so....
I do see how it has contributed to my smoking....for me, stopping is out of the question...i dont smoke it only when i have a craving...i just smoke it the same way i always have....i used to really love having a smoke right after but not anymore...i still crave the "after-smoke" but i just don't do it....
Am i setting myself up? Am i being hypocritical?
Some people are telling me that if i still enjoy MJ then quitting cigarettes is pointless..."I'm only doing half the job"....while MJ isnt proven to be GREAT for you, it does not cause cancer and have all of those poisons in it and it has always help me to relax and "wind-down"....but other ppl tell me that smoking MJ is JUST AS BAD...so although i congratulate myself every day for quitting the cigs, and feel a big twang of guilt when me and my old friend (MJ)meet up...am i being too hard on myself?
Any thoughts???????????????????
eating, living, breathing N.O.P.E!!!!!

I've quit many times before, and they never seemed to stick. The most I ever went was close to 2 years!!! before I relapsed... Terrible!
I read the Allen Carr book on my last quit and one of the things he said that stuck with me is "Don't use substitutes".
I know it was my substitute that caused me to relapse, let me explain...
I've smoked MJ most of my adult life. Usually just to relax at the end of the day. When I quit "smoking", I never quit smoking MJ, and my brain always told me its OK to smoke MJ, at least your not smoking nicotine. Eventually, I'd be required to take a a business trip out of country where I didn't have (wouldn't dare bring) my substitue and would sometimes cave for a pack of Marlboro's just to tide me over.
Well, this time I've given eveything up, even alcolhol. I really don't need these things and I know next time I have tio leave the country, I will not have relied on substitutes to keep me going.
Anyways, just thought I'd share, but mostly this is for me to have a place where I've written this down and gotten it off my chest...
