J...
You are still here and that is all that matters! As many others have said before me, nobody said it would be easy, or everyone would quit!!
Be proud that you are still determined to keep trying. So many other people would have given up by now. Throw out those smokes and learn from it.
They say each time you try to quit, you learn something about why it didn't work. Try a different route home from work. Stop and pick up yourself a treat to celebrate your smoke free day. No matter what it is, you deserve it!!
And the others are right, it is that demon in your mind trying to force you into smoking. Well, I know this sounds really silly but I walk around reminding myself of that! It's not me thinking these things, it's this demon in my head. I don't want to smoke and the nicodemon just keeps popping into my head when I least expect it. I feel like I'm going to have to call an excorcist.. LOL...
Stay strong, change your routine and keep posting!!
Hugs, Trix

Hi, it definately feels better already just to read some responses. Thanks so much.
Paris, it isn't that i want to smoke, i really don't, i hate it, i can't stand it. Everytime I've lit up in the past few months i can't stand it, i never even finish any of them. I don't have health reasons to quit, i don't want health reasons to quit. I watched my mother die less than two years ago from smoking related illness, thats a good reason right? i keep telling myself that. That pain is enough to convince anyone, or it should be. Today i just feel defeated because i want it so bad and i know i am soo close, i just need to reach in deeper maybe? GAWWWD I've worked through the wonderful material here on the site and if it knocks me down i'll keep working through it till i get it right. Pretty soon, i am sure i can recite alot of the information without even reading it.
Earlier this afternoon, my little sis called me. She's a never smoker and has been so great. We cried on the phone together and i promised her i will keep in touch, that felt good. Well, onward and upward, keep pressing on......

hi J ,
After smoking myself for 41 years , and " trying "to quit many times over the years I realized I always failed because I never really wanted to quit . I convinced myself I liked it and it wasn't fair to have to give it up . I enjoyed it , I told myself .
I would have these little talks with myself when I was alone smoking . That was most of the time because I never wanted anyone to see me smoking . How dumb was I . My family had given up saying anything to me because they knew how stubborn I was .
Last year I had a terrible sinus infection . I was also having hearburn all the time and I was breathing heavier when I walked or did anything .My seasonal allergies were also the worst ever. I must admit , I was worried . I have never had any health problems before . My doctor sent me for all kinds of tests . Everything came back fine to my relief and that is when I knew I had to quit . It was enough of a scare when my Doc. said it is probably the smoking .
Within a week of quitting my hearburn was GONE . That alone was such a relief that I was so grateful .( I had reached the point I was afraid to eat anything . )
I did take champix , and I know it helped , I found this site , It definitly helped,
but it was my stubborn determination that really pulled me through .
My desire to quit was stronger than the addiction . Nothing on this planet was going to happen to make me light up another cigarette.
You have to brain wash yourself. It is not so much about willpower as change .
Let it go , you are just not going to do it anymore . It's over .
I hope some of this rambling helps .
Paris

Hi theycallme J,
Try to chalk it up to being a bad day and keep on with your quit. Eliminate all the cigarettes left behind, don't just throw them out, really wet them, soak them so that you cannot fall back again. Once you have done that, have your water, veggies, and anything else around that you decided to use. Post a sign on your door, fridge, and car dashboard that you don't want to head out to buy cigarettes. Maybe even add a picture of the top reason you have for quitting. (a picture of your family, yourself, or that vacation you always wanted) Unfortunately, as frustrating as this, it happens, its part of quitting to have some setbacks. Don't be hard on yourself, your back here and posting right?
Keep at it and it will happen!

Thank you both for your kind words. I really need that right now.
newlife, i'll be cheering for you tomorrow. I'm not sure how the meter thingy works. I didn't really pay attention to it. I think you set it for the last day you smoked but i'm sure others will answer that question.
March1, prescriptions are out of the question for me, totally, so no i can't take them. I will be using lozenges, they do work well for me its my brain that i need to fix right now. but thanks.

Hello J, what things did you put in place to help you? Did you go through the program here to help you? What motivated you to stop smoking? Did you set up a new routine, have distractions put in place?
These things are important to success. Changing your routine isn't easy but it's sometimes a must especially for those most difficult cravings/urges/habit smokes ie: after eating, with your fave drink in the morning or any other that you find is most difficult.
Have some hard candy and or sugar free gum and cold water to sip on. Have some puzzle books or jigsaw puzzles ready to work on or some other hobby. Make a list of things you would like to get done around the house.
Just don't give in to going to the store and buying smokes. Go for a walk away from that store.
You will do it!

I kick started my quit by taking Zyban. Have you considered this? It really helps to take the edge off, and you actually smoke while you're on it for the first 7-14 days before you quit. Smokes taste really bad (at least they did for me) after about 5 days on the drug. Maybe thats what you need?

Hey J! I'm not 100% smoke-free yet but will be tomorrow. One of the things I'm going to do is keep nicorette losenges in my pocket where I used to keep my lighter and when ever I go for that "habit" cig I'll grab a losenge instead! It seems to me that it's a matter of retraining your brain that no you don't smoke anymore! It's the ones that sneak up on you when you don't even notice you're doing it that are killer because you end up being totally blind-sided. Think of your brain as being brainwashed and now your job is to re-condition it. Good Luck! We're all here for you so don't give up! Persistence (or as I call it pig-headedness) wins every time! Keep trying!!!!

Well here i am again, reset stats. What the heck is wrong with me? i can't even get past day 2? I am so darn angry with myself. I want this so bad and it makes me so mad that i just keep caving in? I read and read some more, get myself ready, excited, happy, tell everyone my date. Then the date comes, i work hard, not even having a hard time really. Then it happens, i cave. Why???
Yesterday i was cruising right along, got through the entire day. Then the day ended (work day) and for no stupid reason i went to the store and caved in. How do i stop this stupidness? I'm so mad at myself i don't even want to reset a date. Today has just been awful, the whole day. What else can i do?
