Hi CC
Just checking in before the long weekend starts.....
If you still have the heeby jeebies, you should be out of them very shortly.  Just bite the bullet for a little while longer.  Your looming right at the 2 week line and once you pass this milestone, you will be so thrilled with yourself that you will almost forget about the previous 2 weeks, ECCHHH !
You have been so strong and determined on your journey thus far... thanks for sharing with the rest of us newbies...You have set a great example of what it takes to win the battle against our addiction.

Your BFF Champix quitter pal,

On the 2nd day of my quit, I thought I was going to explode and was not going to be able to make it so I started calling around trying to find a support group that I could physically attend.  Unfortunately, I kept hitting a brick wall and there is none in my city.  I live in Regina so if anyone knows of a support group here , I would be so happy to attend.

Hi CC,

You are sweet! I must say, I attended a support group put on through my local hospital and the leader said that NRT (patch etc) were designed to help us with only one of four areas of concern: physical. If we can make ourselves physically comfortable with the NRT, then we'll be in a better position to deal with the other three areas: social, psychological and emotional. And from where I sit, those other three areas are significant, and I see a lot of people just dealing with the physical issues of dependence. I have done it myself, over and over and then wondered why I cave as soon as I'm with an old smoker friend or on my way to work (that has always been my cave situation).

I'd recommend a support group to anyone trying to quit. I'm pretty sure they are offered in most provinces...the health care system certainly wants everyone to quit smoking. We were offered the patch and gum through the group...they doled out a week's worth at each of four meetings...I guess they wanted us to come back each week! Anyhow, that's where I've been getting my information.

Hope that you're having a good day and feeling strong. And if you're not feeling strong, just fake it until you are!

Gingermouse, I love you!!  You always have such insightful and helpful posts to me and I thank you so much for that.  Wow , you're on your 26th day today.  Good for you.  I can only imagine...

I sure didn’t expect that the emotional/behavioural cravings would have such an impact on me physically.  I figured mentally I would be battling while getting ready, etc but that physical work out  knocked me for a loop.  I got to my girlfriend’s house and just started crying.  But I am ready now for the cravings to hit when I encounter certain places/people/events as they are certainly as powerful as the chemical dependency.

Way to go CC! It helps that people aren't supposed to smoke in most concert venues anymore, doesn't it? I loved your question about DTs...I find that mine are mostly emotional behavioral...certain places and people get my cravings stirred up at this point. The nicotine is certainly addictive, but we have so many behaviors associated with smoking too. I find these as powerful as the chemical dependency!

Jason thank you for your information and tips!  Bon Jovi and Kid Rock were AWESOME!!!  I sailed through the concert and didn’t smoke.  Of course you can’t smoke in the stadium but watching those poor folks going up and down , in and out for smokes put a great big smile on my face.  I was thinking wow, this is great.  Typically that would be me and I would be missing so much of the concert.  It helped alot that my two friends are non smokers.  I did chew lots of gum and put suckers in my mouth often but I did it and it wasn’t as tough as I had imagined!!  I think the shaking and freaking out I was experiencing while getting ready was the anticipation of the night ahead of me without smoking.  I actually put a cig in my purse in case I went “nuts” there but I threw it out when I got home.

Anser – Thank you for your support and advice.  I think getting out there and doing something good for me gave me a little more fight.  I really thought I would not be able to “get out there” for a very, very long time (if ever ).

My BFF Champix quitter pal SmoberedUp – You are very wise.  I went back and reread our earlier posts with a clear mind.  What I don’t get is how can we have “DT’s” if the nicotine is out of our system.  And why does there have to be a zombie month?  I don’t think I can do a month of being a zombie...lol

Hi CC,

I was sort of expecting your comments.  If you recall, on the Champix post were we first met, I mentioned a similar experience at roughly the same time....I mentioned that the first few days weren't nearly as bad as a brief interlude that I had further along.  I believe that you are experiencing addiction DT's. I had 'em.  The best advice that I can give is to get as much rest as your lifestyle will allow.  If you're cranky and explosive as well as shakey,  avoid any situations that will irritate you... if possible.  If you can't or you are at work, tell your friends and co workers how you feel and ask them to give you a break for a day or two....no shame in that.

My most powerful good vibes to you, my champix BFF quitter friend.
You are STRONG and you WILL come through this.

Hi clearlycrystal,

People often suffer different symptoms when they quit.  Everyone's body will be different and so will the symptoms.

Your may feel slightly shaky and you may experience increased perspiration. However, the tremors or shakes are usually minor, and will subside as your body gets used to not smoking.

How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting.

Tips to help: Frequent warm baths or showers can help dispel both the perspiration and the tremor. If you are concerned, consult your doctor to determine whether it is severe enough to warrant medication.

Try to enjoy the concert...I think it is a great reward.  Remember that you are doing great!

Post back and let us know how the concert went.

Jason

My goodness... I'm going to a Bon Jovi and Kid Rock concert tonight and while getting ready I couldn't stop shaking.  The nicotine should be outta my system by now so I'm not sure what the heck was going on with me.  I was shaking so bad my whole body was trembling at times.  Normally when I go out I turn up my music , make a drink and of course smoke my face off.  Today I had my music on and made some hazelnut coffee but it was horrible.  I made a light drink and it was still hell!!  I don't think I can go out socially again cause this is too much work.  I'm ready for a nap but have to leave now.   I just want my old life back, the old me....uggggg
