Happy 10 year celebration. Congratulations. Thanks for posting and sharing. I know exactly what you mean about the need to hold on tighter to our quit when life get tough and stressful. It would be so easy to give up and give in. Those are strong, powerful words my friend  where you write the pride of my quit was the one thing I might have left. I wasn't going to give that up too.

Someone asked me today, how I made it through tough times, the stressful times, the break ups, losing a job, death of a friend/family member. Because those are the times that really test you. For me, this quit was something I accomplished. And at the lowest of times, when it would have been easy to cave, I knew the pride of my quit was the one thing I might have left. I wasn't going to give that up too. So I hung on, because when things were desperate, at least I had my quit.

Hi Boom,

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing your story.

I was talking to a friend at work the other day.  She was asking if I was keeping my quit, and I said yes.  She said she is going to try to quit starting the middle of March.  She has quit several times before, for periods of several years, and then picked up the habit again.  She said she thinks that once a smoker, always a smoker.  She is right in that like you said, we are always one cigarette away from a pack a day. That is why I know I can never have as much as one puff.

For the first time the other night, I dreamed that I was smoking.  When I woke up, I was so relieved that it was just a dream.  But the fact that I even dreamed about it scares me.  I know that there are times that I really want one.  Or truth be told, my addiction wants one. This is one heck of a battle, and I applaud you for winning the war.

Congratulations Boom on your 10-Year Smoke-free Anniversary!

It was really nice of you to take some time and share your story.

Here is what Boom wrote on their anniversary wall submission:

10 years. Made it. I will not kid anyone and claim it was easy. To this day I sometimes reach into my pocket for my cigarettes, or consider going outside at work for one, even for a split second before realizing I don't smoke anymore. I still smoke in my dreams, and wake up elated that I didn't actually mess up this quit. I am one cigarette away from a pack a day. I haven't been on the forums much in recent years, but will make myself available to SHO this weekend for any questions you may have. I appreciated this place so much, I started a facebook group in its name. (long before pages). Cheers,

Have a great day, and please keep this member in mind, as one day at a time can and will eventually lead to 10 years, and more.

Paul
