Hey Travis and Jacebo. Hang in there. If you can manage to distance yourself from those who don't support you you will find it easier. I work with a couple of people who still smoke, and fortunately for me, they are all supportive and respectful of my decision to quit. If it wasn't for that fact, then I probably wouldn't have been able to make it the 150 or so days that I have now. Recently I have been going through some wicked cravings, but I know that my family is very supportive of me, and is very happy that I have managed to make it this far. Truth be told, I really haven't come across that many negative smokers. Most of the ones that I know are envious of my journey and are impressed that I have made it so far, without a single slip. Just remember that SHO is here to help support you on this journey, and your family is very proud that you have begun your trip down the road to recovery. There are bumps on the road mind you, but you can and will manage to get over them. This is a trip that many have done before you, and we are all here to help you get through it.
My Milage:
My Quit Date: 4/26/2012 Smoke-Free Days: 157 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,140 Amount Saved: $1,256.00 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 21 Mins: 2 Seconds: 34
You can't learn to walk without tripping once

I as well have a friend who has taunted me in the past when I have tried to quit before. When I have failed he simply says "welcome back to the dark side"with what seems to be glee, which is very defeating in this struggle. This person has not once tried to quit smoking, and simply has no intention to do so and uses every possible excuse to not quit. I think these people taunt us, or are happy when their friends fail at quitting as their social smoking circles are shrinking and they are becoming loners in their habit/addiction. For me, I just need to keep strong, and remember who I am quitting for, and I hope you can do the same. I have decided to limit contact with these negative influences until I have more time under my belt and am more confident in my resolve to resist the urge to ever light up again! Good luck to you and your struggles with those around you who are not supportive of this extremely difficult task!

Hi Jaceboo,
Yes, that certainly sounds like jealousy to me. If you quit successfully it reminds them that they need to quit - something they may not be ready for. If you slip then it reaffirms to them that it's too hard to quit anyways so why bother. It's not nice what they are doing and they probably do not realize the damage they can do either.
Try not to let this disturb you. You know where it's coming from.
Find pleasure in being successfully smoke free. That would really bother them

Jacebo-who needs enemies with friends like that LOL. I know it's an addiction but there is no excuse for someone to try and make you fail, I put them in the same category as the "friend" who insisted I try a cigarette. I must have said no a hundred times before I finally relented sigh. Misery loves company. I'd move on from that "friend" and tell them straight out that quitting is your absolute number one priority right now and you can't be around anyone that jeopardizes that for awhile. Anyways, yes it does feel good to have somewhere we can come to vent

I've had a friend do the same. I think it's smoker's envy. Makes them feel better saying they don't want to quit when actually they're too afraid of trying. and failing...

I don't understand why people who smoke find pleasure in a non smokers struggle to quit. Is it jealousy? My quitting buddy never really quit at all and taunts me with smokes or tells me how much she is still enjoying smoking. I am by no means quitting for her but my god, could I get worse support?! I have tried quitting a few times and every time I fail I feel as if my friends or family that are smokers find some kind of pleasure in it. It just seems strange to me.
Feels so good to vent:)
