Hi dixiebird!

You did it! Unfortunately during the first week of the quit, usually at the half way mark is a day of intense cravings and withdrawl. It sounds like day 3 was that for you. It is now going to get better every day that goes by, the cravings will reduce in frequency and the withdrawl will begin to ease. So good for you for getting through day 3. I hope too that corinthia is doing well too. You may not be feeling so well but internally your body is healing.

Hang on, treat yourself well!

Hi Corinthia

It sounds like you are determined to quit and you are clear as to why you want this.  I think it's normal to be scared.  Being scared is a sign that you are committed to quitting.

Like Violet says, take advantage of this site as it offers so many resources such as the coping plan etc.....  Good Luck with your quit and see you again soon.

Hey Corinthia
Admire your clarity and honesty about wanting to quit, its a great place to start.
I know for me just thinking about getting through a day with no smoking was too much. But I could think about getting through an hour, just one hour, without a smoke. And then 2 hours, 3 hours...and then, well, I made it through the first week..
You can do it! One minute at a time if you have to, but we believe in you.
Keep going, it gets better,
cheers!

Welcome Corinthia

Preparation is key to a successful quit. I think your best chance of success is to go through the milestones in the online quit program tools here.  They will help you identify your triggers and also help you find out your level of dependance on nicotine and whether some of the quit smoking aids might assist.  The plan also helps you create a coping plan for when you do quit. As you are doing that consider going in and talking to your local pharmacist as they are quit specialists and can really help go through all the different aids that are available to you.  Your doctor is also an very important person in your plan to quit for life.

You can do this  There is so much help available out there now and of course there is here.  When the day comes we will be here. You get through it hour by hour and you will have your emergency coping plans and tons and tons of ideas on how to get through each craving.  It can be done. There is always someone here to help and give support so you will never be alone

Hey folks.

As a writer, I tend to write a lot, but in this case I will try to make it brief.

I'm 30, almost 31. I've smoked a pack a day since I was 17. I've never had any success whatsoever trying to quit. But I'm just done, I'm so done. Truthfully: I still love smoking, but I hate everything around it. I hate the realization of how I smell and look and come across to other people. I hate how much this is costing me, almost $5,000 a year -- I spend more on cigarettes than my mortgage.

I got divorced in late 2010 and recently started dating again, and I hate every time a date doesn't go well and I think -- would I be more appealing if I didn't smoke? I hate even having to ask that question.

I have to be done, but I have no idea how to do this. Every time I've tried it's gone so badly. The only time it even went okay was earlier this year, when I had my wisdom teeth out -- I didn't smoke for three days for fear of dry socket, and that actually went surprisingly alright. But I was very doped out on painkillers for most of the time.

Every other time has been a disaster.

Any help is welcome. I'm really scared. I don't know how to get through a day without smoking. I HAVE come to this resource before and I know one thing I have to do is really work on that. But I just gotta be done now.

Thanks.
